Although safeguarding and welfare are our primary functions we will also respond to medical emergencies across Cheltenham town centre if requested to do so.
Cheltenham Guardians are welfare officers and not medics. We do however carry a life-saving automated external defibrillator as well as a critical bleed kit, trauma kit and burns kit. Our value at medical emergencies lies with our ability to manage the scene and liaise with our emergency services partners
Our team are equipped with Naloxone - an emergency medication that can reverse the effects of an overdose. We are trained to administer this by way of intramuscular injection and may administer this where required, usually at the request of the ambulance service.
We will care for and remain with the patient, liaising with the ambulance service where necessary until paramedics arrive. Where required we may transport the patient to hospital ourselves if they are low-acuity 'walking wounded'.
Our team maintain a response time of less than 3 minutes to all incidents within Cheltenham town centre.
